Fireproof Home Safes – Why You Need a Safe at Home

What was once considered a luxury item for the rich and famous has now become a basic necessity that everyone can afford. A home safe offers protection for your paperwork, guns, jewelry or other prized possessions. They come in a variety of sizes, models and price ranges to meet everyone’s needs whether you’re looking to store your social security cards, birth certificate, marriage licenses and other paper work or your diamonds.

There are two primary reasons why people choose to get a safe for their home:

Fire Protection – While no safe is 100% fire proof, home safes offer high levels of protection from fire, smoke and sustained heat. Home fire safes secure your important documents, paperwork and prized possessions from complete loss in the event of a fire, and for a sufficient amount of time to allow emergency fire fighters enough time to respond to and eliminate the fire. It’s important to also look at fire safes that are water resistant – since any safe caught in a fire will likely get wet from the firefighters’ hoses as they work to put out the flames.

Theft Protection – Keeping your valuables in a safe makes it extremely difficult for a burglar to take them from you. Just as no safe can be 100% fire proof, you will not find a safe anywhere that can guarantee a burglar will not be able to break in. The best we can do is make it extremely difficult and deter the common burglar from trying to get into your safe. A home security system combined with locks on doors and windows is a good way to keep the “bad guys” out; but should they get past your security measures, you can have peace of mind knowing they will have an even more difficult time getting at your valuables, social security cards, birth certificates and other documents stored in your home safe.

If you’re just looking for a way to stash some cash or small valuables out of view from your roommates prying eyes, you might consider a diversion safe. Diversion safes look like everyday objects – from soup or dog food cans to books to shaving cream cans and beverage cans – yet open up to give you a place to store your small valuables. You can keep them right out in the open and no one would even know they were a safe – because who would ever attempt to pop the lid of a dog food can to see if it contained valuables?!

If you keep guns in your home, it’s always a good idea to lock them into a safe so they don’t end up in the wrong hands. There are a number of safes designed to store guns from pistols to rifles, in varying sizes depending on the type of guns you have in your home. Having a home safe gives you additional security and peace of mind for your paperwork and small valuables in the event of fire or theft.
