Inexpensive Rifle Safes…..Any suggestions?

I've got a HOMAK Home Security rifle/gun safe. It is NOT fireproof, but it has two locks, and can be bolted to the floor or wall (if desired). Mine isn't bolted down, but is too heavy to just carry away. It holds about 12 rifles/shotguns, and has 3 shelves for handguns, magazines, etc.

What is the best way to store ammunition in a residence?

In case of fire the ammunition would explode, not allowing firecrews to put out the fire. What about those military cannisters? they are not bulletproof?? So what is the best and safest way to store ammunition in case of fire particularly.. thx for all responses.
